HISTORY
Houston's First Baptist Church has ministered to the people of the Houston area since 1841 when it was founded by foreign missionaries from the United States of America spreading the Gospel in the Republic of Texas. Over the years, members of the church helped pioneer Baylor University, the Star of Hope Mission, and the Baptist Memorial Hermann Hospital system and School of Nursing. After 136 years in downtown Houston, we moved to our current location at I-10 and the West 610 Loop in 1977 ushering in a new chapter in the life of HFBC.MINISTRIES
With ministries for everyone, HFBC is a diverse church ready to meet diverse needs. Preschoolers to high school students, young singles to senior adults, newlywed couples to empty nesters and everybody in between can all find opportunities for worship, growth and service. Those who want to be involved in the life of the church can serve in one of more than 125 different volunteer opportunities, too. There is truly something for everyone!
MISSIONS
Today, more than twenty missions and ministry points are sponsored by HFBC, and over 40 national and international mission trips are scheduled each year touching a wide variety of language groups and social needs. HFBC's Missions Training Center at Silber and Long Point provides ongoing services to the community, such as a clothes closet, food pantry, Bible studies, counseling, job skills training, teen clubs, foreign language worship services, and more.
